Kim Gui-Young
Abstract
To investigate the treatment efficiency and the factors related with the prescription compliance of the patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. We followed up all the 543 registered patients who were cytologically confirmed at seven Health Center in Taegu City from January 1. 1989 to June 30. 1989. The cumulative compliance rate for regular drug receipt was 66.7 percent at the ninth month. The noncompliance rate were 6.46 percent at the first follow-up month and 6.49 percent at the second follow-up month. In the simple analysis, the status of supporting family member, the severity of radiological examination and the results of sputum cytology had statistically significant association with the prescription compliance (P < 0.05). Whereas. The status of supporting family member was the only significant factors associated with the prescription compliance in multivariate, analysis using Cox regression model (P < 0.05). Of 543 patients, 484 (89.1 %) visited Health Center at the ninth month. Of 484 patients who visited last follow up month. 432 patients were cured. Therefore, the treatment effect was estimated as 89.2 percent_ The treatment effect for the patients with regular drug receipt (97.8%) was significantly higher than that (63.9 %) for the patients with irregular drug receipt (p < 0.Of 543 patients. 432 patients were cured, the treatment efficiency¢¥ was 79.6 percent by the simple analysis age, the status of supporting family member. socioeconomic, status. The severity of radiological examination and the status of tuberculosis patients among family members were statistically significant factors related with the treatment efficiency (P K 0.05).
Therefore to improve prescription compliance, we should strengthen the management of the patients during the first and the second follow-up month, especially for the patients who are living alone without any supporting.
